Your Guide to Buying a King Memory Foam Mattress

In the 1970s, NASA developed the memory foam for space purposes. It entered the consumer market and became popular as topper pads. Two decades later, the memory foam mattress was created, occupying a prominent niche in the mattress industry.

What To Know Before Buying King Memory Foam Mattresses

A memory foam mattress is ideal for those with back problems, bone and joint problems and arthritis. It also comes in several sizes such as single, double, king, queen, California king, California queen and super king. Some double-sized memory foam mattresses both have a soft and hard side, which are ideal for couples. A memory foam mattress’s density is mostly about five inches.

There are a number of factors that you should keep in mind when buying a memory foam mattress. These include temperature sensitivity, thickness and top layer. Mattresses do not necessarily have to be sensitive to temperature as a feature. However, temperature sensitivity can actually be very important in choosing a mattress to add more comfort to your sleep. A temperature sensitive mattress absorbs body heat in warmer environment and becomes firm in a cooler environment as well.

Moreover, a mattress’s thickness is also another important thing to consider. Thickness of a memory foam mattress is its total weight calculated in cubic feet of memory foam. Measuring the correct thickness of a memory foam mattress may be varied but it is recommended that you choose a mattress that has a thickness that ranges from 5.3 to 5.9 lb. A mattress with lower recommended thickness may not be able to give adequate back support. Moreover, mattresses with a thickness higher than 5.9 may be too thick to provide the right support.

With memory foam mattresses increasingly becoming popular (also used for chiropedic adjustable beds), so is the demand for thicker and more luxurious mattresses. Whether you go for a king memory foam mattress or any other size for that matter, it basically uses a five inch base layer with a few inches of foam at the surface. Thicker mattresses have a base of six inches with a couple more inches of surface padding for added comfort. These are known to be the most popular beds.

It is also important to go for a memory foam mattress that has enough memory foam on the surface layer. Go for a mattress with a 3.5 inch-memory foam for its surface layer. A layer that is too thin may not give you the right comfort that you need.

Whatever size of memory foam mattress you prefer, make sure that you get the right fit for these elements for a sound snooze.
