Even couples who will be sharing a Sleep Number bed could adjust both sides of the bed differently and independently depending on their preferences. The company defined the concept of the Sleep Number setting as that number between 1 to 100 that represents the combination of mattress firmness, support and comfort level that is most preferred by a user. When this particular setting is determined, the user can make the necessary mattress adjustments through a remote control.
To ensure that its mattresses are of top-quality, Select Comfort subjects its sleeping systems in a battery of tests that evaluates mattress durability and pressure point check. To make sure that the mattresses are durable, they are subjected to the Octagonal Roller Test and the Cornell Test. The first durability test requires that the mattresses be rolled over repeatedly by an octagonal wooden roller that weighs 240 pounds up to 250,000 times. The Cornell Test, on the other hand, requires that the mattresses be rammed over and over by a Cornell mattress machine ram head up to 200,000 times. The Xsensor pressure point testing is also done on the mattresses by determining the interface pressure of a body and the sleeping surface. Through this, pressure points are minimized or if not, eliminated to reduce sleep interruptions like turning and tossing.
Sleep number mattresses also boast of a zip-open design that makes them easier to vacuum or ventilate to get rid of trapped allergens. The materials from which these mattresses are made of are also tested to make sure that these effectively inhibit the growth of microorganisms and allergens. More importantly, Sleep Number sleeping systems are so durable that users can expect them to last for more than twenty years.
